How a case moves through bankruptcy.ai
These are not features. They are the stages of a case — in the order they actually happen.
What bankruptcy.ai is today: the front-end layer that gathers client information, collects financial documents, validates completeness, and hands a clean case file to the petition software your firm already uses. Drafting and filing are on the roadmap — built incrementally, so firms can adopt without disrupting workflows that are already working.
Stage 1 — Client Intake
Client intake that does not require staff to be involved every step.
A firm staff member enters 10 fields to open the case. From there, the client receives a magic-link portal invitation via email and SMS — no app download, no account creation, no password to forget. The client completes a 17-section questionnaire on their own time.
- 10-field case open by firm staff — name, contact info, case type, assigned attorney
- Magic-link portal access sent via email and SMS automatically
- Client completes 17-section questionnaire at their own pace
- Mobile-first design — works on a phone in a waiting room
- Firm staff see real-time completion status for each section
- No missed sections — the portal tracks exactly what is and is not done
The questionnaire covers every intake section for Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 — assets, liabilities, income, expenses, creditors, co-debtors, prior filings, and more. Questions that are not relevant to the client's case type are hidden automatically.

Stage 2 — Financial Document Collection
Documents from the source, not from the client's camera roll.
For most clients, the three hardest documents to collect are bank statements, paystubs, and tax returns. bankruptcy.ai pulls them directly from the source — bank data integration for statements, payroll provider integration for paystubs and W-2s. Manual upload handles everything else.
- Bank data integration generates 90-day statements from connected accounts
- Payroll provider integration pulls paystubs and W-2s directly from the payroll source
- Manual upload for clients who cannot connect — with per-document status tracking
- Firm staff see a live document checklist: received, pending, missing
- Document type auto-detected — statements, paystubs, tax returns identified without manual sorting
- Client receives targeted reminders for outstanding items only
Where payroll or bank connection is not available — gig economy workers, cash-income clients, clients at smaller institutions — manual upload still works. The system tracks the gap so the firm knows what it has before it runs the export.

Stage 3 — Export to Your Petition Software
A validated export that lands in your petition platform without manual fixup.
When the case file is ready, bankruptcy.ai exports a schema-validated data package that imports directly into the petition software your firm already runs. The export is not a PDF — it is structured data that maps to the destination platform's schema.
- Schema-validated export maps to the petition platform your firm already uses
- Gap tracking shows exactly what is populated and what is missing before export
- No manual re-entry — client questionnaire data flows through to the export
- Works with the petition platforms most bankruptcy firms already use
- Export validation catches errors before they reach the petition platform
- Re-export supported if data changes after the initial export
bankruptcy.ai is not trying to replace your petition software. The attorney reviews, amends, and signs the schedules in the platform your firm already knows. bankruptcy.ai delivers the clean raw material.

Stage 4 — Trustee 341 Delivery
The 341 document package — assembled, verified, and ready to send.
The standard 341 document checklist — driver's license, Social Security card, 90 days of bank statements, two years of tax returns, 90 days of paystubs — is tracked automatically. The system detects when every required document is present and enables the one-click trustee package.
- Standard 341 checklist: ID, SSC, 90-day bank statements, 2 years of tax returns, 90-day paystubs
- Per-firm customization for district-specific trustee requirements
- System detects checklist completion automatically — no manual verification
- One-click trustee package download when checklist is complete
- Manifest included documenting every file in the package
- 24-hour signed URL for secure trustee delivery
Trustee document requirements vary by district. The per-firm customization layer lets you add district-specific items — tax transcripts, pay advices from specific periods, employer verification — and the system tracks them the same way as the standard checklist.

Stage 5 — One-Click Client File
The full client file, organized and ready to download in one step.
At any point in the case, firm staff can generate a complete client file ZIP — every document, organized by case phase, with a manifest. Useful for file audits, attorney review, conflict checks, and anything else that requires the full case record in one place.
- Full client file as a single ZIP, organized by case phase
- Manifest documents every file included — name, type, received date
- 24-hour signed URL for secure download
- Can be generated at any case stage — partial files are still useful
- Consistent naming convention — no manual sorting required

Stage 6 — White-Label Your Firm
The client portal looks like it belongs to your firm.
Every client-facing surface carries your firm's branding. The client receives the magic link from your firm's domain. The portal shows your logo and colors. The welcome message is yours. The phone number for SMS is assigned to your firm.
- Firm logo, colors, and welcome message on every client-facing screen
- Optional custom email domain — client receives link from your firm, not bankruptcy.ai
- Per-firm phone number for client SMS reminders
- Per-firm email template customization
- Branding does not require technical setup — configured in firm settings
Clients who ask 'what is this portal?' see your firm's name, not ours. You own the client relationship. We are the infrastructure behind it.

What is coming
The roadmap
bankruptcy.ai today is the intake and document layer. The path forward is to handle drafting and filing in the same place. We are building incrementally — so firms can adopt without disrupting workflows that are already working.
In-platform petition drafting
NextDraft schedules, the SOFA, and the means test inside bankruptcy.ai — populated from the questionnaire data already on file.
In-platform e-filing
FollowingFile the completed petition directly from the platform without exporting to a separate system.
Practice management integration
PlannedPush case data and document status to the practice management software your firm already uses.
Expanded data integrations
PlannedAdditional bank-data providers, payroll sources, and credit data connections — broader coverage of the income and asset picture.
The roadmap is directional, not a delivery commitment. We ship incrementally and tell you what ships when it ships — see the changelog.
